The Dezhong (德鐘) teapot is a classic plain-style purple clay teapot originally created by Shao Daheng, a master teapot maker of the Qing Dynasty, during the Jiaqing period.
Named after the Confucian concept of "cultivating virtue and establishing moral character," the character "zhong" (鐘) represents ritual and music, symbolising harmony and order. With its simple and unpretentious design and flowing lines, the Dezhong teapot showcases the essence of Zisha craftsmanship. Not only is it a practical tea utensil but it's also carrier of Chinese culture, perfectly blending traditional craftsmanship with philosophical thought.
This Zisha teapot has undergone an additional wood firing, giving the teapot a unique look and finish. The wood firing process is quite unpredictable and the marks created on each pot is completely unique to it.
Usage and care:
Rinse and season the teapot before use. Here's a quick guide to show you how. As the clay is porous and teapot is unglazed, dedicate one tea type per pot (or if you wish to take it to the next level, dedicate only one tea per pot). Hand-wash only with water and NEVER EVER wash with soap or detergent. The last thing you want is soapy suds flavouring your next brew.
